The general rule is if you are losing a 1/4" of water or more per day you should have a leak detection performed. However, there are many factors that can increase the normal evaporation rate. Such as temperature, wind, and whether or not the pool heater is being used.
The bucket test is an easy way to check if your pool is leaking. Simply take a 5 gallon bucket and fill it 2" from the top with water from your pool. Then place the bucket on the first step of the pool. Mark the water level inside the bucket and the pool water level on the outside of the bucket and check the levels 24 hours later. If the pool water level is lower then the water level inside the bucket, you have a leak. If the levels are the same, it's just normal evaporation!
Leak-Wise will accurately locate your leak using our proven 2 step process. The first step is pressure testing ALL of the plumbing in your pool or spa. We put all the pipes under pressure at 20 psi and make sure that they are not leaking. If the plumbing system doesn't hold pressure we will isolate the exact pipe that is leaking and pinpoint the leak with our state of the art electronic equipment.
The second step is a thorough inspection of the pool structure. A certified diver will dive into your pool(all year round)and dye-test the pool shell for leaks. We check for hard to see structural cracks and small gaps in the plaster. As well as all lights, skimmers, main drains, and return fittings
